Spiritual Sharing - Discipleship Part 1

Discipleship Part 1

In 2008, while having a spiritual pity party...... "Oh poor me, my life sucks.", I received a letter from my cousin. In making a point, he referred to us as "Disciples of Christ".  In that moment, I had to laugh as I wondered to myself, does he even comprehend what it means to "truly" consider ones self as a disciple of Beloved Almighty Lord Jesus Christ? Does he realize that even though we are saved, it does not make us a disciple overnight. It is an
ongoing "process" for as long as we are here in earth.

I have been guided to share what I am experiencing in my ongoing "process" of forever becoming a "true" disciple of my Beloved Almighty Lord Jesus Christ. In so doing, I pray that someone who is also experiencing the ongoing "process" of discipleship will know you are not alone; there are others on the path so don't despair, don't give up!

We will begin with the "Definitions" of "Disciple" and "Process".

Disciple - Greek -
3100 matheteuo (math-ayt-yoo'-o) from 3101 - to become a pupil: to disciple i.e. enroll as a scholar - be disciple, instruct, teach.

3101 - mathetes (mathe-ay-tes - from 3129: a learner, i.e. pupil: - disciple.

3129 - manthano (man-than'-o - matheo - to learn (in any way): - learn, understand.

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of The Bible, James Strong LL.D., S.T.D., 1990 Thomas Neson Publishers.

Definition of "Process"- course (of time, etc.); a continuing development involving many changes. A particular method of doing something, generally involving a number of steps or operations.
Verb Transitive - to prepare by or subject to special process or method."

An excellent book that clearly explains "Process" that is greatly assisting me in understanding the ongoing "process" of Discipleship is: "God's Gonna Make You Laugh - Understanding God's Timing For Your Life" by Noel Jones.
I highly recommend you study and re-study it. You will be glad you did!

We will now move to The Words of my Beloved Almighty Lord Jesus Christ:

In Matthew:
Matthew 5:2-20:

2. "And he opened his mouth, and taught them saying,"

3. "Blessed are the poor (humble) in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

4. "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted."

5. "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth (land)."

6. "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."

7. "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy."

8. "Blessed are the pure (sincere) in heart: for they shall see God."

9. "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

10. "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

11. "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely (in deceitful fashion), for my sake."

12. "Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you."

13. "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."

14. "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid."

15. "Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house."

16. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

17. "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."

18. "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle (dot of the i or cross of the t) shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."

19. "Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

20. "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness (faithfulness) shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 5:43-48:

43. "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy."

44. "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"

45. "That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise (shine) on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just (those who do good) and on the unjust."
46. "For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans (tax collectors) the same?"
47. "And if ye salute (act graciously toward) your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?"

48. "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

Matthew 10:1-4; 14-16; 22-28; 32-33; 36-40

1. "AND when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease."

2. "Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

3. "Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;"

4. "Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him."

14. "And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet."
15. "Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city."

16. "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless (innocent) as doves."

22. "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth (persists) to the end shall be saved."

23. "But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over (finished with) the cities of Israel till the Son of man be come."
24. "The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord."
25. "It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub (Beelzebul), how much more shall they call them of his household?"

26. "Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known."

27. "What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops."

28. "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him (God who)
which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
32. "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven."

33. "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."

36. "And a man's foes (enemy) shall be they of his own household."
37. "He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me."
38. "And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me is not worthy of me."
39. "He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it."
40. "He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me."

This ends the "treasures" that I found in "The Book of Matthew".

Please study them carefully, for they are food for your soul on our path of "Discipleship".

Thank you for allowing me to share.
